TCS employees volunteer to support those in need
Staying true to the Tata tradition of giving back to society, TCS North America, through its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, aims to be a good corporate citizen in the American context as well. From the beginning, TCS employees have contributed and supported local community initiatives in the areas in which they live and work. Recently, two such volunteer campaigns in two different locations have helped raise funds for the homeless, and provide food to families in need.
Hike for the Homeless
On March 3, 2012, a group of people set off on a hike at the Estrella Mountain Park, Goodyear, Arizona. The six-mile hike, which lasted two-and-a-half hours, saw five enthusiastic TCS-ers joining in to raise funds and awareness to help the homeless. TCS North America CSR Champions organized this event under the North America CSR program.
The event — Hike for the Homeless — took place at two locations, with 1,100 participants. Each hiker contributed $25 as the participating ‘fee’; altogether, the event helped raise $65,000, which went to St. Joseph the Worker, a nonprofit organization that assists the homeless, low-income, and other disadvantaged individuals to become self-sufficient through permanent, full-time employment.
On March 10, 2012, nine TCS-ers volunteered at Feeding America Tampa Bay in Florida. The organization offers volunteers many ways to get involved, including sorting perishable and non-perishable food donations, stocking food pantries and shelves, and packing grocery bags for families in need.
Feeding America Tampa Bay is the local affiliate of the nation’s leading domestic hunger relief organization, Feeding America. The organization aims to ‘end hunger and nourish hope’ in the 10 counties in and around Tampa Bay, and strives to supply more than 600 hunger relief charities that help Tampa Bay families in need with food donations.
